Turn a Strava or Garmin route into a poster

Strava and Garmin Connect can both give you an activity as a file. GPXTopo reads GPX, FIT, TCX, GeoJSON, and KML files and builds the poster from it. You do not need to connect either account.

1. Get the activity file

The menus change from time to time, so follow the official help for the exact clicks. In general you open the activity on the website, find its options menu, and choose the export or download option for GPX, or for the original file. The original file from a watch is usually a FIT file, and GPXTopo reads it as it is. If the download is a ZIP archive, unzip it first and use the file inside.

Pick the one activity, not a bulk export of your whole account. A single activity file is all GPXTopo needs.

2. Make the poster

  1. Open the studio and choose the file with Choose a route file, or drop it on the page. The controls open on wide screens; on a phone, open them with Controls.
  2. Under Look, pick a starter look such as Topographic, Aerial, or Ink.
  3. Fill in Title if you want something other than the activity name. The date comes from the file.
  4. Choose a Shape for the poster: 4:5 suits a print or frame, and 9:16 suits a phone screen.
  5. Under Stats, Minimal shows distance, elevation gain, and moving time. Data shows six statistics, and you can tick up to six yourself. Clean hides the title and the numbers.
  6. Select Export in the top bar, choose PNG under Format, pick Standard or High under Size, and select Export PNG.

Before you share it

A poster shows the shape of your route. If it starts or ends at your home, trim those parts first (see how GPXTopo keeps your track private).
